Navigating Change, On and Off the Water
Whether navigating the open water or the complexities of the MedTech industry, Excelerant Partner Tom Nolan knows the value of experience, preparation and understanding the environment around you.
With more than 35 years in medical devices, Tom has witnessed remarkable changes in healthcare. From the days before Diagnosis-Related Groups (DRGs) to today's increasingly cost-conscious purchasing environment, he has seen firsthand how the industry has evolved and how companies must adapt to succeed.
His career has taken him from carrying a sales bag to senior sales and marketing leadership positions with Fortune 50 companies. Along the way, he has worked with organizations ranging from emerging MedTech startups to Fortune 500 companies, giving him a unique perspective on the challenges businesses face at different stages of growth.
One of Tom's strengths is understanding what makes a company's products valuable and helping communicate that value to the right healthcare decision-makers. Whether working with GPOs, regional purchasing coalitions or IDNs, he recognizes that a successful strategy requires more than simply understanding the product. It requires understanding the customer, the market and the changing priorities that influence purchasing decisions.
Tom also believes that effective consulting requires more than industry knowledge. He emphasizes three essential skills: technical expertise, interpersonal relationships and the ability to provide meaningful guidance. His approach is to become part of the client's team while bringing an outside perspective that can uncover opportunities others may overlook.
But Tom's navigation skills extend well beyond healthcare.
Outside of Excelerant, Tom enjoys sailing, skiing, traveling and spending time with his family. He's also a licensed Master Captain with the U.S. Coast Guard, an accomplishment that offers a glimpse into his interests beyond the business world.
Whether he's helping a MedTech company navigate an increasingly complex healthcare market or spending time on the water, Tom brings decades of experience and a perspective shaped by a career of adapting to change.
